Dear Members:

What a busy week we are having at the Chamber. Last night we had a very successful New Member Orientation Party at the Bonaventure Country Club, sponsored by the Weston Business Council. I want to thank in particularly Jennifer McCloskey of A Job For You and Jim Concannon of GlobalTel IP, who were the Co-Chairs of the event, for all of their efforts and Tom Kallman, Chair of the Weston Business Council, for his support. Without the volunteers, the Chamber would not be able to do the things that we do in order to support the membership and the community. To all of the volunteers, THANK YOU for your support.

In another step toward taking education to the next level, American Heritage School announced the construction of a brand new state-of-the-art media center on its Plantation campus.  The addition encompasses nearly 22,000 square feet in a two-story structure and will be unveiled on February 27, 2006 at 9:00 a.m.  The media center will pay tribute to Patricia Butts, senior high principal of American Heritage, for her outstanding work in education and her 35 years of dedication to American Heritage School.  Plantation Mayor Rae Carole Armstrong will be attending the ribbon cutting along with other local dignitaries.

“Our vision for education is to always look to the future,” said Dr. Doug Laurie, vice president of American Heritage School. “This new media center will provide us with progressive new capabilities in all aspects of education.”

The first floor is comprised of a complete stacks area accommodating 30,000 volumes of books, reading areas with tables that have computer connections and 33 computer stations for specialized individual learning.  The media center will also have a librarian’s office and workroom.  There will be four computer labs, which will have direct access to the media center accommodating 28 students.  The second floor will have 14 general classrooms including a custom made mock courtroom for the pre-law program.

“We have long had an outstanding curriculum, dedicated faculty and administration, and superior sports and arts programs,” added Laurie.  “With our renowned theater, signature clock tower and new buildings, this media center marks the school’s commitment to its students, the community, and the future of education.”
