It was 7 o’clock in the morning on June 4, not even 4 full days after Memorial Day Weekend ’04 had managed to physically exhaust even Miami’s most experienced and devoted partiers, yet this Air Jamaica flight was packed with nothing less than the best that D.C. and Miami have to offer.

As a group of exceptionally attractive and successful men and women, we were all attempting to prepare ourselves for what was sure to be an experience comparable to no other. That’s right, we were on our way to join 99JAMZ air talent extraordinaire Lorenzo "ICE-TEA" Thomas for his third annual birthday bash at the tropical Jamaican paradise known as Hedonism III. As we deplaned in Montego Bay you could sense a sort of electricity beginning to circulate throughout this very diverse yet exceptionally sexy and sophisticated gathering of strangers. Collectively we resembled a savvy FRARORITY-yes that is a word to join fraternity and sorority-with an energy more conducive to say college spring-break for the "Grown & Sexxy" than a typically relaxing tropical get away for some prosperous urbanites, and thank goodness for preparation considering there was NOTHING typical about this 4 day tropical experience. |

As we arrived at Hedonism III we were greeted by our host, Lorenzo "ICE-TEA" and his personal welcoming committee that was fit for the likes of Hugh Hefner, which I am positive was Lorenzo’s goal, and then immediately whisked off to our very comfortable accommodations, where the ultra sexy motif of the weekend was further facilitated.
To the joy of all the working professionals attending the birthday bash the days started nice and early, 12 noon, when we awoke to soothing R&B tunes and fruity drinks that we got from the swim up bar in the pool located about two convenient steps from all of our rooms. As restlessness set in from lounging around the pool many of the bold and beautiful guests headed to the beach…the Nude Beach, where they partied and parleyed in their most exclusive attire, their Birthday Suits. After the beach it was the after party, actually it was the pool party where the "NUDES" invaded the "prudes" side of the resort, and if at any time it was truly popping, believe you me, this was it!!!

At Hedonism III the standard rooms come equipped with Jacuzzi tubs and lots of mirrors…Everywhere! Unfortunately for those of us arriving on Friday we had missed out on the opening ceremonies of Lorenzo’s Birthday Bash event, including the always imitated yet never duplicated Hedo III Toga Party, where the perfectly groomed and finely toned guests of the host paraded around in barely there "Toga’s". |

However, after a couple of "Woo-Woo’s" and an hour in the sun T.G.I.F. syndrome set in and Lorenzo got the weekend started with a star studded beachside networking party hosted by the ever gracious LisaRaye, star of the hit movie the Players Club and UPN's All Of Us.
Other special guests included
Adina Howard, Syleena Johnson and Raheem Devaughn.

Also, fellow 99JAMZ air personality K. FOXX, Arizona Cardinal defensive back Duane Starks, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens, and the Junior Welter-Weight Champion of the World Sharmba Mitchell. The networking party was a huge success. Guests, which included D.C.’s premier promoters, the fellas from IDC, and Miami’s entrepreneurial mama’s Ty and Tamara, mingled, drank, and shook their booties to the ingenious beats of DJ Quicksilver who was ‘reppin the D.C. nightclub scene to the fullest.

Following dinner Lorenzo’s people, who had by this time officially taken over the resort which had sold out due to the event, were treated to a live performance from Adina Howard where she showcased songs from all of her albums and definitely added extra heat to an already steamy scene. After the performance guests who wanted their night to continue moved the party over to the hotels resident club, aptly named, Octo-Pussy, while those who were left feeling hot and sexy carried out their agendas in one of the many sexual outlets provided by the resort…the beach, the extra large Jacuzzi tubs, poolside, in a hammock, and for those wishing for a little more privacy, the previously mentioned mirror laden rooms. For some of us first timers, though, Friday’s festivities hadn’t fully freed our minds and bodies from those pesky little restrictions that state-side life tends to impose upon us. You know things like having to wear clothes in public places and being required to suppress most of our sexual desires to the confines of our own personal private space. However, Lorenzo was determined to make all of us find our inner En Vogue and Free Our Minds!

Hosted by the boys of IDC with music, again, provided by D.J. Quicksilver this pool party was four hours of non-stop, and at times sexually explicit, play time for grown folks that words could never describe. Guests were bombarded with alcohol, entertainment, more alcohol, the hottest music, crazy contests, and swimwear was, of course, optional. The entertainment continued after dinner with two phenomenal performances by JIVE recording artists. The first performer, Raheem Devaughn, is a new addition to the JIVE family and his performance left the women needing towels and the brothers giving their boy crazy props. Immediately following Ra was a breathtaking performance by the exquisite Syleena Johnson, who had decided to share her album release party for her third project with Lorenzo and his guests. With the title of the album being FLESH and the songs being soulful and of course very sensual Syleena was the most perfect and appropriate addition to the amazing lineup Lorenzo had provided.

The birthday boy proceeded to celebrate his special day with his celebrity friends like LisaRaye and Entice (Miss Black Nude, HBO) in the disco with a cake, a bootie bouncing contest, drinks, and an unexpected nap! Yep, that’s right; the host of the weekend finally fell victim to his own hectic schedule and had to lay it down in the club!!!

By Sunday, all of us had finally embraced the freedom of living in the Hedo zone. Topless or Bottomless or both, everyone seemed to be simply basking in the warmth of the splendid Jamaican sun, and enjoying the pleasure of being comfortable in their own skin; an experience everyone should have at least once.
Between the trip to Dunn’s River Falls, the beach party, and partaking in a variety of water sports we were all kept very entertained late into the evening. And, as the weekend wound down and the sun came up on Monday morning quite a few members of the crew could still be found sipping on that last drink while chilling for the last time in the mammoth hot tub that had been the site of so many great moments!
Looking back and reminiscing with fellow "Put it on your head" frat members we all came to a consensus that this trip is one that should not be missed at long as it exists! . The freedom, comfort, and luxury of being able to let loose and experience such a sexually charged and free environment comes along so scarcely in the fast paced, high profile lives of so many young and successful urban professionals that we should all embrace opportunities such as Lorenzo’s Birthday Bash with open arms and minds! Big Ups to you, Lorenzo "ICE-TEA" Thomas, for without your creative devotion to living life none of this would be possible; after all, how many people throw their birthday parties in a foreign country with a guest list that is open to all, and sell the joint out! We love you and cannot wait to join you again next year, June 2005, for your fourth annual Jamaica Birthday Bash!
