S.T.E.M. learning to get a boost in Miami-Dade schools

Science, technology, engineering and math studies were given a $75.000 boost in the form of a grant from Verizon. “S.T.E.M. learning is critical and Verizon’s generous grant allows us not just to promote STEM but to demonstrate strategies teachers can use to implement the district’s new focus on BYOD (bring your own device) learning methods,” said Linda Lecht, President of The Education Fund. Downtown Miami spotlighted as future tech hub

With the support of Incubate Miami and the Miami Downtown Development Authority, Downtown Miami set to become the technology hub for South Florida. The goal of building a “tech city” downtown — as other cities have done — may have gotten a boost from Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, said Marc Sarnoff, authority chairman and Miami city commissioner. “We met with the mayor, and he’s given a verbal commitment to $1 million over four years,” he said. “We’re looking at creating a space of not less than 50,000 square feet. Where and how is evolving by the day,” he said, declining to give more details until plans are further developed. More..
