IBM WebSphere ILOG Rules for .NET
Discussion Comes To Miramar

Join us on Tuesday, October 13th in Miramar as  Judy Sanchez discusses IBM WebSphere ILOG Rules for .NET.  IT Business rule management systems (BRMS) bring a number of advantages for organizations that want to enhance the effectiveness of operational systems – automating decisions with a high degree of precision and personalization, increasing straight-through processing, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations. At the same time, a BRMS can facilitate the implementation of automated decision logic by allowing business rules to be defined in a way that both business and technical users can understand, reducing ongoing application maintenance time and cost.

Microsoft-centric BRMS IBM WebSphere ILOG Rules for .NET makes the power and flexibility of advanced BRMS technology available to developers, system administrators, business analysts and business policy managers through more than 15 Microsoft products and technologies. Rule Studio for .NET runs within Microsoft Visual Studio to provide authoring, testing and deployment of business rules through a single integrated development environment (IDE), and the innovative IBM WebSphere ILOG Rule Solutions for Office lets business users maintain business rules directly through Microsoft Office Word and Excel.

3rd Prize: The Live Action Flying Duck Hunt

Bringing Duck Hunt to Life
This is the live-action shooting game that lets you hunt a flying duck with a harmless infrared gun. A 10-second charge on the barrel of the gun energizes the mechanical duck for a 30-second flight (Play Video). The duck's 6" long mylar wings flap up and down nearly 500 times per minute, and it can be set to fly in an erratic left- or right-turning circle or a level, straight line. Sharp-eyed hunters take aim with the infrared gun--the first two hits merely stun the waterfowl, momentarily interrupting his flapping; the third hit downs the duck for good. The single-shot blaster has a 20' range and makes a loading sound with each pump.

Drastic Increase In Government Jobs Expected Soon

More than 270,000 mission critical jobs to be added by 2012
A study released September 3, 2009 by the Partnership for Public Service indicates that there will soon be a considerable increase in new government positions. The study attributes the coming increase to a variety of factors including stimulus spending, regular turnovers, and increased demand in expanding areas such as homeland security. It is estimated that the government will hire 273,000 new employees for positions deemed "mission critical" by the fall of 2012.

Medical jobs are at the top of the list with regards to number of positions needing to be filled at 54,000 over the next three years. Overall, however, there seem to be numerous openings across the board spanning from paralegals to biological science experts, border patrol agents to engineers, IT experts to accountants. This is good news for those in search of work as the unemployment rate has reached 9.7% which constitutes a 26 year high.

Additional good news includes offers of loan repayment of up to $10,000 per year (totaling $60,000 in exchange for a minimum of three years of service), recruitment bonuses, and relocation incentives. And with 85% of federal positions located beyond Washington, D.C., there are numerous opportunities in diverse locations spanning the world.

The Partnership for Public Service is a Washington, D.C.- based group founded in 2001 by Samuel J. Heyman. According to the Partnership for Public Service website, the group was formed “in an effort to restore prestige to government service and reestablish the federal government as an attractive employer for America’s best and brightest...” They have been responsible for numerous studies regarding the federal government's workforce.
