Two Georges Discuss LightSwitch And Web Matrix
Join us on Thursday, September 9th in Boca as the GCUG comes back after its summer break to show us two exciting new developer technologies - LightSwitch and Web Matrix. The Two Georges, Paul and George present on the exciting new developer technologies that allow you to quickly generate web driven applications. Whether you are a pure Web 2.0 developer or one looking for more of a richer client experience, these tools can quickly get you up and running, while allowing you to add unlimited functionality to your applications.
LightSwitch makes it simple for developers to quickly build polished, user-friendly custom business applications that work and look like an off-the-shelf solution, for the desktop and the cloud. WebMatrix is everything you need to build Web sites using Windows. It includes IIS Developer Express (a development Web server), ASP.NET (a Web framework), and SQL Server Compact (an embedded database).
The event starts at 6:30 with a brief networking session and don't forget about one of South Florida's best raffles after the presentations. You don't want to be late for this one!

Software Freedom Day Celebrates Free & Open Source Software
Join us on Saturday, September 18th at the Alvin Sherman Library on the campus of Nova Southeastern University's Main Campus for the 2010 Software Freedom Day. This worldwide celebration of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) will educate the worldwide public about of the benefits of using high quality FOSS in education, in government, at home, and in business -- in short, everywhere! The non-profit organization Software Freedom International coordinates SFD at a global level, providing support, giveaways and a point of collaboration, but volunteer teams around the world organize the local SFD events to have an impact on their own communities.
We have a great location, too: The Alvin Sherman Library - a public / university partnership on the Nova Southeastern University main campus. It's the largest library building in Florida, and we will have a booth in the main lobby! We will have computers running FOSS, a stack of Ubuntu DVDs to hand out, and of course FLUX flyers.
