Seminar on “Establishing Spanish publishing houses in the United States”
On Oct. 18-19, the cities of Barcelona and Madrid will host the seminar “Establishing Spanish Publishing Houses in the United States,” which will examine relevant issues to consider regarding working in this country. The seminar is being organized by the Spanish Association of Publishing Guilds (FGEE), and the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX).
Publishers say Madrid conference brought attention for need in policy changes
The final session of the 6th Ibero-American Publishers Conference in Madrid ended with the presentation of the DILVE book portal and the signing of a cooperation and transfer agreement for the service among the Spanish Association of Publishers Guilds (FGEE), the Ibero-American Publishers Group (GIE) and the Regional Center for the Promotion of Books in Latin America and the Caribbean (CERLALC).

“English Next” was commissioned by the British Council and written by researcher David Graddol. The study says that Mandarin and Spanish are challenging English in some territories for educational resources and policy attention and that the dominance of English on the internet is declining.

Born in Seville in 1955, Antonio María Ávila has been the Executive Director of the Federación de Gremios de Editores de España (Spanish Association of Publishers Guilds) since 1997. Mr. Ávila was Secretary General of Foreign Trade between 1982 and 1987, and has a PhD. in Law and Economic Sciences.
