Why e-books in
Spanish in the US and How to Make Them Available to Readers
America Reads Spanish, together with
Publishing Perspectives, have organized a panel of book industry
leaders to discuss "Why e-books in Spanish in the US and how to make
them available to readers" during the upcoming Book Expo
America. The panel is scheduled for May 23rd from 9:00 a.m.
to 10:30 a.m., at the 4A Terrace conference room at the Javits
Center.

The Federation
of Publishing Guilds of Spain (Spanish acronym FGEE) and the Brazilian
Council for the Book Trade have reached an agreement to transfer the
experience of the DILVE platform, the first Distributor of Information
about Spanish Books on Sale, to Brazil. Based on the adaptation of
DILVE’s technology to the Brazilian market, all books
published in the Portuguese language will be collected in a sole
registry or database, just as the Spanish book sector has been doing
since 2006.

ACTFL’s most
recent enrollment study found that from 2004–05 to
2007–08 more K–12 public school students enrolled
in foreign language courses, yet, despite this increase, only 18.5% of
all students were enrolled. Spanish, studied by over 70% of foreign
language students, dominated language course enrollment. French, a
distant second both years, represented 14% to 15% of foreign language
enrollment. All other languages were studied by 5% or less of foreign
language students, with the fewest students enrolled in Russian.
