Noticeable growth in use of Spanish language around the world
Close to 470 million people use it as native language. Forecasts show that within three or four generations 10% of the world’s population will communicate in Spanish. 21 million people speak Spanish as second language, which represents an increase of close to 1,5 million persons compared to year 2014.

The book fair grossed 6% growth compared to 2014, resulting in growth for three consecutive years.The event generated roughly 8 million Euros this year. Sant Jordi’s book fair (Barcelona) reported 4% sales growth.

Madeline Peña & Loida Garcia-Febo, some of the most renowned members of REFORMA, are this year’s winners for these awards.Madeline Peña has been an active member of REFORMA for over four years. She served as co-Chair of the Marketing Committee for RNCV and was recently elected Chapter Representative for the Western Region.  

Leonardo Padura wins Princess of Asturias Award for Literature
The Princess of Asturias Award for Literature has gone to the Spanish/Cuban novelist and journalist Leonardo Padura. There were 27 nominations from around the world for the prestigous award which has been won in the past by people of the stature of writer John Banville, Leonard Cohen and dramatist Arthur Miller.

 
Chris Pratt
Film actor 
The star of the moment comes to talk to us about his new status in Hollywood and his passion for Spanish food. It’s Jurassic June and this month the world gets flooded by dinosaurs thanks to the movie Jurassic World. Chris Pratt is the lead actor in this sequel of the beloved dinosaur franchise to wrangle any prehistoric monster in case things go wrong. Pratt shared his excitement to be part of Spielberg’s legacy, working with new director Colin Trevorrow and actress Bryce Dallas Howard.

RoxanaMargaret Jull Costa has been a literary translator for over twenty-seven years, and has translated many of the true greats of Spanish and Portuguese literature, including Eça de Queiroz, José Saramago, Javier Marías and Bernardo Atxaga. After school, she worked as a secretary in London and spent three consecutive summers in Spain. Back in England, she decided to study Spanish at university.
