Spanish Culture
Minister says all material in archives, libraries to be digitized in 3
to 5 years
Spanish Culture
Minister César Antonio Molina said that in a period of between
three and five years all the cultural material in Spain’s
archives and libraries will be digitized, a task that will involve the
central government, the autonomous communities and even private
foundations and institutions.
The goal is to
digitize millions of documents, books and manuscripts covering many
centuries of history in a country, Spain, that is “perhaps
one of the most important in (terms of) its archival material, number
of archives and relevant historical content,” Molina said.
The project will help preserve the material, allowing researchers to
use the documents and other items without damaging them.

Random House Mondadori
invests 2 million euros in book-sorting system
Leading
Spanish-language publishing group Random House Mondadori is improving
its logistics system in Barcelona by investing 2 million euros to
install an advanced sorting system that only the Inditex group has in
Spain.
The system has
been implemented at its warehouse in the town of Pallejà near
Barcelona, allowing it to sort some 7,200 books per hour, or 13 million
books annually, the publishing group said.
The
lion’s share of the investment has been earmarked for
automated “sorter” technology, which identifies
each copy by its bar code, automatically distributes the content of
each order in cartons and can even attach the price tag.
