Antonio Gala
“I promised that
the publishing of my poem books, in case were done, would be

Language
regulator says use of Spanish in U.S. must be standardized
The director of
the Academia Norteamericana de la Lengua Española (North
American Academy of the Spanish Language), Gerardo
Piña-Rosales, said there is a growing
“awareness” of the need to “protect and
standardize the use of Spanish in the United States.
In statements
coinciding with the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (from Sept.
15-Oct. 15), Piña-Rosales said that, along with recognition of
the “great (cultural) diversity” and intellectual
wealth of the Spanish language in the United States, there is a
responsibility to ensure that “American Spanish”
has an adequate level of “idiomatic correction.”
