Great
success for Luisgé Martín and Marta Sanz on U.S.
literary tour
“This program seems to me to be a
unique opportunity in terms of what it offers us in contacting our
readers in the United States,” says Marta Sanz, one of the
authors participating in the Spanish Authors in America program, a
program aimed toward the promotion and divulgation of Spanish writers
in the USA. Sanz and Luisgé Martín recently have been
to different cultural centers, reading clubs, universities and
libraries in Miami, New York and New Jersey presenting their works. The
latest publication by Martín – “Las manos
cortadas,” published by Alfaguara – has been
received with great public acclaim.

Mexican
wins Spain's most prestigious poetry prize
Mexico's
Jose Emilio Pacheco was announced as the winner of the Queen Sofia
Poetry Prize, Spain's most prestigious literary award in that genre.
The prize, which is accompanied by a 42,100-euro ($56,000) cash award,
recognizes a living author's complete body of work and contribution to
the shared cultural heritage of the Ibero-American community. The
69-year-old Pacheco's poetry oeuvre is universal in scope and has been
included since the 1950s in the main Latin American poetry anthologies.

Peru’s
Leo Zelada publishes literature anthology
Peruvian author Leo Zelada has published the
anthology “Nueva Poesía y Narrativa
Hispanoamericana” (New Spanish American Poetry and Fiction),
compiled to provide the Spanish public with a collection of works by
authors currently writing in the Spanish language. The 39-year-old
Zelada has lived in Spain since 2005 after having spent five years
backpacking all across Latin America in order “to get in
contact with the peoples of my country,” he said.

University of Rochester
Three Percent launched in the summer of 2007 with
the lofty goal of becoming a destination for readers, editors, and
translators interested in finding out about modern and contemporary
international literature. The motivating force behind the website is
