prestigious Alfaguara literature prize
Chilean writer
Hernan Rivera Letelier was awarded Spain's prestigious Alfaguara Novel
Prize on Monday for his work "El arte de la resurreccion" (The Art of
Resurrection).
The president of the jury, Spanish novelist and feature writer Manuel
Vicent, made the announcement during a meeting with authors and
journalists at the headquarters of the Santillana publishing group in
Madrid.

“Festival
of the Word” to transform Puerto Rico into
Caribbean’s literary focal point
The “Festival
de la Palabra” (Festival of the Word) will transform Puerto
Rico into the Caribbean’s literary and cultural focal point
during the first week of May, according to the director of the event,
writer Mayra Santos-Febres.
The author of “Nuestra Señora de la Noche”
said that the Ballajá Quarter of Old San Juan will host a
festival designed to foster reading in Puerto Rico and which is
expected to attract more than 50,000 visitors.

Spanish
writers win children Literature Prizes
Spanish writer Jordi Sierra i Fabra won the El
Barco de Vapor Children's Literature Prize, which is awarded by
publishing house SM, for "Historia de un segundo."
Sierra i Fabra, who was born in Barcelona in 1947 and is one of the
most popular children's authors in Spain, said he would donate the cash
prize of 50,000 euros ($68,242) to his foundation, which works with
disadvantaged children in Colombia and Spain.
