Sad News: Renowned Author and Library Supporter Dr. Isabel Schon Has Passed Away
We are sad to inform you that Dr. Isabel Schon passed away last night. As many of you may be aware, Dr. Schon was the director of The Isabel Schon International Center for Spanish Books for Youth at the San Diego Public Library.

The program is an 80/20 curriculum in which students in kindergarten speak their native language 80 percent of the time and their non-native 20 percent. Gradually, students get to the point where they speak English and Spanish equally throughout the school day.
