Is a Private Christian Education Worth the Cost?
Many parents and college bound students are surprised at the cost of increasing college expenses, especially when it comes to considering a private institution. This is a phenomenon known as "sticker shock" and parents begin to ask themselves, "Is a private Christian education worth the cost?"
Let's first explore possible reasons for the increase:
1. Location - The region the school resides may have a higher cost of living.
2. Salaries - Faculty often are required to have their doctorate degrees to teach at
higher education institutions resulting in higher pay scales.
3. Facilities - There is an increase in amenity expectations. For example: food
courts, a PE complex, and wireless networking.
Keep in Mind:
1. Attending college is an investment.
2. It is uncommon for students to pay the full cost of college expenses.
3. The amount of Financial Aid is often greater at private Christian schools than public
universities.
Is it worth it?
A resounding yes! Attending a Christian college allows students to develop close relationsips with their professors and classmates based on their commonality of faith. It prepares students for a lifetime of continuous learning and provides the skills, tools, and encouragement needed to succeed!
Think of a Christian college not as a bubble, but as a greenhouse where you as a student can set strong roots and grow in your faith and talents.
