The Scoop on South Beach
Summer in Miami may be hot but it’s definitely cooler than being anywhere else. Where else could you find America's Next Top Model winner Jaslene Gonzalez looking beautiful au natural? She was outside of the Catalina Hotel & Beach Club with no make up on which was probably best because the rain might have smeared her mascara. The sun always has a way of coming through though in South Beach, especially when celebs like Janet Jackson wear all white while dining at Table 8. Otherwise she would be a little see through and we’d all see her “Rhythm Nation”.
Gabrielle Union was hanging out at the Fifth, she must have really had a good time at the Whitelaw hotel a few years back when she was filmed there for the movie Bad Boys II with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.
Jamie Foxx was in town for the 2007 Irie Weekend, a charity slue of events presented by Deutsche Bank VP David Sugarman and DJ Irie. The charity benefited the Miami HEAT Charitable Fund but it didn’t help the K Fed fund, he decided not to show up!
Ashlee Simpson and boyfriend Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz enjoyed a nice romantic dinner on Lincoln Road. It’s a shame they didn’t try out the new Jamaican restaurant at Hotel Chelsea. Instead of slurping up their pasta they could have been slugging down Red Stripe beer.
Scott Storch partied at Mansion with pal Snoop Dogg, perhaps he wanted to hang out with someone else who does illegal things but at least doesn’t get caught.
Anna Kournikova “know what it feels like” to celebrate her 26th birthday in South Beach. She had dinner with Enrique and some of her friends at China Grill, their cocktails definitely were not as strong as Safari Bar at the Chesterfield Hotel & Suites, where a guest celebrated her 26th. June babies must really love celebrating in South Beach, The Next Best Thing Michele Merkin, celebrated hers in the VIP section of Cameo, Vice.

It seems like musically talented celebs know where to stay in Miami. K. Fed and his posse returned to the Chesterfield Hotel & Suites and after checking out Jazze Pha was in house here in Miami working with Janet Jackson on her latest album. While K.Fed was partying it up all hours of the night at Chesterfield's Safari Bar, World Heavyweight Boxing Champ Shannon Briggs barely fitting into South Beach's smallest bar, hung out with some friends in the Lily building of the hotel as well.
Catalina Hotel & Beach Club hosted a White Heat party including a White Chocolate fountain and white Lychee Martinis. Locals from all parts of Miami came together to celebrate summer fun in South Beach. The Bravo filiming crew just missed this great bash leaving a few days before after taping the daughters of The Real Housewives of Orange County. After a few days of eating and drinking at Maxine's Restaurant those West Coast hotties already planned a trip back. Mini Housewives weren't the only thing mini at Catalina this past month. The Mini Cooper Club, 6 Degreees Magazine and Tezon Tequila threw an uber exclusive party with the theme mini. While Tezon girls passed out mini tequila shots, party attendees munched on mini burgers, mini baguettes, mini pizzas and last but not least drank from mini coke bottles.

This exhibit, from museum owner/collector Naomi Wilzig's personal collection of explicitly sexual art, includes such varied pieces as a silver-plated bracelet featuring seven 'naughty' poses of famed pin-up star Betty Page; a wrist watch with erotic images signaling each hour; a sterling silver Japanese Kama Sutra belt buckle; the figure of a girl with removable diamond studded dress; and a brass necklace whose focal point is six suspended male and female nudes. Hours: open daily from 11 a.m. to midnight. Admission is $15 with no one under 18 admitted.

The Sky is Yellow

This exhibition explores two- and three-dimensional works of art that deliberately misrepresent 'reality' in order to shift viewers' perceptions. Whether it is the conceptual or formal dialogue between actual space and the illusion of space, authentic and illusory mediums, the natural and the synthetic, or the familiar and the unfamiliar, each artist in The Sky is Yellow successfully utilizes traditional techniques such as Trompe-l'oeil to enhance their contemporary works of art.
